Reporting Independently but Struggling Collaboratively: The development of citizen Journalism in Taiwan


Citizen journalism in Taiwan have become more and more influential during last decade along with the development of ICTS (information and communication technologies), especially the Internet (including websites, blogs, and social media).

For example, in recent years several independent media and reporters won the Excellence Journalism Awards, the most famous and prestigious journalism honors in Taiwan, as competing with journalists from media corporations who are facilitated with more resources and organizational supports.

This paper is aimed to demonstrate the development and characteristics of citizen journalism in Taiwan, as well as analyze the challenges to which those individual activists of citizen journalism have encountered, and illustrate the collective efforts by which these activists of citizen journalism have made.
